Performance of the song cycle ‘Tluq’ to poems by John Aquilina

The short song cycle Tluq will be performed as part of a chamber music recital on Saturday 22nd February 2020 at Verdala Palace, Rabat. This work is a small song cycle for soprano, cello, and harp, based on three poems by John Aquilina. They will be performed by renowned soprano Gillian Zammit, cellist Frank Camilleri, and har
pist Britt Arend.

The three a5e7ce25-2444-4f6d-aaa0-50d5f88ff07fpoems (VistuMourningMa ħallejt xejn warajk You left nothing behind you, & Meta titgħallem titlaq / When you learn how to leave) are taken from John Aquilina’s recently published collection of Maltese poems titled Tluq (Departure) which was released in 2019. If you are interested in knowing more about this amazing collection you can read an interview with the author by clicking here. Clare Ghigo together with the composer.

The programme will also feature a selection of art songs by composers like Villa-Lobos, Debussy, and Richard Strauss. The recital forms part of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra’s chamber music series. This forms part of a bigger project which includes a recording and a performance at Carnegie Hall, New York, in April 2020.
